Engineer's Printed Name Sl -g"; Jo vkJ your) 4 Date Veit COSA brown sheet 10-10-12.doc January 8, 2014 Municipality of Anchorage Subject: Request for Waiver This letter is a formal request for a waiver from the 100 foot separation between a water well and sewer manhole/cleanout as required by Table A-1 in Section 15.55.060 of the Municipal Code. The property is Lot 2, Block 2 of the Original Girdwood Townsite. The well was drilled in error approximately 92 feet from an existing sewer manhole/cleanout. However, there are mitigating circumstances that should be considered for this waiver request. The surface elevation of the property is approximately two feet higher than the road surface of Old Dawson (the street in front of the property and the location of the sewer manhole/cleanout referenced). The top of the well casing is approximately four feet higher than the surface elevation of the property placing it approximately six feet above the surface of Old Dawson. The static water level inside the well casing at the time the well was drilled (July 22, 2010) was one foot below the surface of the property, but still one foot above the surface of Old Dawson. As of January 2, 2014 the static water level inside the well casing was even with the surface elevation of the property placing it approximately two feet above the surface of Old Dawson. Additionally, the well flow rate at the beginning of the four hour flow test was 16.5 gpm and at the end of the test it was still 16.5 gpm, indicating that there was no drawdown. Given this information it appears that the well is slightly Artesian in character such that even in the event of a flood net flow would be away from the well. Also, the laboratory tests of the well indicate that there are no coliforms present. All of this information taken together indicates that flow from the sewer manhole/ cleanout to the well is highly improbable and in my opinion a waiver from the requirements of Table A-1 Section 15.55.060 of the Municipal Code is justified.
