The original septic system was installed in the Fall 1999 and showing sign of aging. The new field will be installed in the reserve area where two percolation tests were performed within 30 feet of the proposed area and the existing field. Test holes 1 and 2 are shown on the drawings and the soils are the same soils tested as in 1999. The percolation rate was 1.2 minutes/inch. (see attached Test Holes 1 and 2 Soils Log -Percolation Test and Sieve Analysis). During the soil investigation no ground water was encountered. Lot 3 is approximately 2 acres in size which will allow space for a replacement drain field and the existing field will be placed in a rest condition. The existing septic tank will be replaced with a larger 2000 gallon tank to accommodate the additional bed room add. The two fields will be tied together with a diversion valve. A note will be paced on the inspection report indicating that the septic system designed for the 6 bedroom shall only be tested in the event the house is sold. The design includes all the required setbacks including a 50 foot set back from a cut slope to the west. The area is well drained and free from wetlands. There is no adverse effect on the neighboring wells, septic systems, or drainage patterns. The as -built information indicates that the backfill added above the original grade was 0.5 to 1.5 feet. This is incorrect. The backfill added was 4 to 4.5 feet. The elevations shown on the as -built drawings are correct. This puts the 14 foot test pit elevation at 71 feet or 5.6' below the bottom of the septic trench. E USi We will excavate TH #4 to a depth of at least 6 feet below the bottom of thq\septi trench prior to installing the replacement field. Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519 Subject: Proposed On -Site Waist Water Disposal System and Water Well Drew and Holly Smith To Whom It May Concern: Drew and Holly Smith, (owners of Lot 3, Block 4, Contour Acres S/D, Addition #4), are requesting a permit to install an on-site septic system and install a well for a proposed 5 bedroom house. On October 31, 1998, three test holes were excavated to a depth of 12 to 14 feet to determine the existing soil conditions and measure the percolation rate of the soil at a depth of about 7 to 8 feet. A percolation test was performed in each test pit. During the investigation no ground water was encountered and on subsequent monitoring days of November 7"' and 24"' no ground water was found. The results of the percolation tests and the sieve analysis are attached. The lot is approximately 2 acres allowing space and soils for both the active system and reserve area as shown on the site plan. The design includes all the required set backs including a 50 set back from a cut slope. The proposed active system is located on the top of a small hill allowing flow in both directions. The area is well drained and free from wetlands. The proposed septic system appears to have no adverse effects on the neighboring wells, septic systems, or drainage patterns and the proposed water well does not encroach on existing septic systems.
