SUBJECT: New Septic - Thunderbird Falls S/D Lot 2
New On-site Well - Thunderbird Falls S/D Lot 3
Dear Jim:
Per earlier correspondence with regards to the undocumented on-site well and
septic system on the above referenced propert the owner has requested we
proceed forward to obtain a septic permit on Ke proposed Thunderbird Falls
Subdivision, Lot 2 and a well permit for Thunderbird Falls, Lot 3. The
undocumented well and septic will be abandoned in place per code.
On April 12, 2002 one testhole was performed for the proposed system. The
results of this test are attached. Water was not encountered during the
excavation or monitoring on April 19, 2000 and October 15, 2001. The general
slope of this lot is from north to south at a grade of approximately 3-5%.
We have designed our system utilizing the existing testhole that was excavated
for the existing 3 -bedroom house. We propose to install a 1250 -gallon STEP tank
and a Bottomless Intern-dttent Sand Filter (ISF) system by first excavating to a
depth of 3 feet and removing all organics, placing a n-dnimum of 6 inches of
MOA approved sand at the bottom of the field, installing the air supply line and
covering it with 1.5 feet of sand. Construction continuing, by placing 6 inches of
3/8" pea gravel on top of the sand and installing the pressure laterals n-ddway in
the pea gravel layer. A programmable timer within the STEP will intern-dttently
dose the ISF.
The Bottomless (ISF) Drainfield Design is based on the following:
• 3 -Bedroom Design Flow: 450 gpd
• Percolation Rate: 10 mdn/inch
• ISF Application Rate: 2gpd/sf
• Minimum Absorption Area: 225sf
• Effective Absorption Area: 360 sf (10'wide by 36'Iong)
• Effective Depth Below Pressurized Distribution Pipes: 0.5'

The materials and construction practices used shall be in accordance with the
M.O.A. requirements set forth in "Intermittent Sand Filter Design, Installation &
Maintenance Manual". The owner and contractor may obtain a copy of this
document at the Municipal Development Services Department, On -Site Program
office at 4700 South Bragraw. Prior to permit issuance, the owner will sign the
MOA "PROPERTY OWNER AGREEMENT FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF AN
ON-SITE WASTEWATER DISPOSAL SYSTEM".
It is proposed that Lot 2 will be temporarily served by the proposed well on Lot
3, until it is determined that the Lot 3 well could serve both Lots 2 & 3 as a class
"C" well or an individual well is permitted and drilled on Lot 2 in the
southwestern portion of the lot. There are no public or private wells within 200'
of our proposed system location except as noted. There is no surface water
within 100'of the proposed system and there are no known curtain drains within
50'. We do not expect there to be any adverse effect on adjacent lots by the
development of this system.
With completion of proper abandonment of the undocumented well and septic
and construction of the proposed well and septic, along with previously
subn-dtted documentation—we respectfully request a plat signoff for item 6 of the

find the attached modified design. We propose to install an AdvanTex Orenco
Package System. This system will be manufactured by Anchorage Tank &
Welding to meet Orenco Systems, Inc. latest design criteria and in accordance to
MOA requirements.
The Drainfield Design is based on the following:

and/or on-site sewer system has expired as of December 31,
1984,
Permits are issued on a calendar year basis by authority
of Municipal Ordinance. A new permit must be obtained from
this Department for any well and/or on-site sewer system not
installed by the expiration date.
If you have drilled the well, a well log needs to be sent
to this Department for documentation of the installation
and to close the permit.
If a private engineer inspected the installation of the
on-site sewer system, the original as -built inspection report
and the yellow copy must be sent to this office for review
and approval, and for documentation.

2. 1 WILL INSTALL THE SYSTEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH -ALL NOR CODES AND REGULATIONS�
AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE DESIGN CRITERIA OF THIS PERMIT.
I WILL ADHERE TO ALL NOR AND STATE OF ALASKA REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SET BACK
DISTANCES FROM ANY EXISTING WELL, WASTEWATER DISPOSAL SYSTEM OR PUBLIC
SEWERAGE SYSTEM ON THIS OR ANY ADJACENT OR NEARBY LOT.
4. 1 UNDERSTAND THAT THIS PERMIT IS VALID FOR A MAXIMUM OF 3. BEDROOMS AND
ANY ENLARGEMENT WILL REnUIRE AN ADDITIONAL PERMIT.
IF A LIFT STATION IS INSTALLED IN FIN AREA COVERED BY NOR BUILDING CODES,
THEN (1) AN ELECTRICAL PERMIT AND INSPECTION MUST BE OBTAINED.; (2) AS-BUILTS
WILL NOT BE APPROVED WITHOUT AN ELECTRICAL INSPECTION REPORT.; AND (3) THE
ELECTRICAL WORK MUST BE DONE BY A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN.
