The length dimension is the length(in feet) of the trench or drainfield. The
depth of a trench or pit is the distance between the surface of the ground and
the bottom of the excavation(in feet). There is no set width for trenches.
The gravel depth is the minimum depth of gravel between the outfall pipe and
the bottom of the excavation(in feet).
* * REQUIRED SEPTIC(HOLDING) TANK SIZE =
Permit applicant has the responsibility to inform this department during the
installation inspections of any wells adjacent to this property and the number
of residences that the well will serve.
* * * TWO(2) INSPECTIONS ARE REQUIRED
Backfilling of any system without final inspection.and approval by this department
will be subject to prosecution.
Minimum distance between a well and any on-site sewage disposal system is 100 feet
for a private well or 150 to 200 feet from a public well depending upon the type
of public well. Minimum distance from a private well to a private sewer line
is 25 feet and to a community sewer line is 75 feet. Well logs are required
and must be returned to this department within 30 days of the well completion.
Other requirements may apply. Specifications and construction diagrams are
available to insure proper installation.

Dear Mr. Bel'l:
At your request I have made a tentatively plot plan of Lot 4E and 4F
Hanshew Heights Subdivision. On these I superimposed a sewer systems
for the two lots. The assumptions are that each of the lots will have a
3 bedroom house. Since the soils test show that the upper layers of the
soils are all that are effective a lift station could be used if
necessary to lift the sewage into the upper section of the lots. As you
~can see from Lot~ One can get three beds on it without any problems at
all. This is assuming that the beds will be kept ten foot from the lot
lines. In most cases the waiver could be obtained and move those
systems closer to the lot lines. Lot F is a little more of a problem in
that the large size house on that lot limits the number of sewer
systems. To the original plus one replacement plus a 1.4 bedroom
upgrade. This lot like the next one could possibly have a systems moved
~ z~loser to the lot line in order to pick up additional space.
/).~, in my opinion as long as the house size on these lots does not exceed
f/f/, ~hree bedroom,_ one should he ~b~ to ~et e~o~h replacement systems to
~" m~---ke~i~-~feasibte to split of the two lots and allow development to occur
on both lots.

To Whom It May Concern:
According to the records on file in this office, the HANSHEW
HEIGHTS S/D(CHURCH) Water System is in compliance with the State
of Alaska Drinking Water Regulations.
Please note that departmental records indicate that the public
water system was installed prior to the 1978 implementation of the
Alaska Drinking Water Plan Review regulations. No as-built plans
have been reviewed or approved by the department, nor are any
necessary. Since the system has submitted acceptable water samples
on a regular basis and received a satisfactory sanitary survey
evaluation by the department, the system is acceptable under the
standards in effect at the time of installation. An official
"Certificate to Operate" may be issued upon receiving a complete
set of as-built plans. Any expansion of the water system after
1978 will require plan review and the issuance of a "Certificate
of Operation" permit.

Dear Mr. Wells:
We are interested in removing the one dwelling per two lots (each is
10,980 s.f.) restriction on Lots 4E and 4F, Hanshew Heights as re-
corded on the plat. The two lots have community water stubbed to
the edge of the lot lines; they are recorded separately and we pay
taxes on them individually.
On May 12, 1978 I delivered to Mr. Bucholdt's office a copy of a letter
from John M. Lambe, P.E. and his copies of Soil's Log Percolation
Tests on Lots 4E and 4F, Hanshew Heights. Lot 4F did not meet the
Municipality's environmental quality soils specifications; and
because of its estetic beauty, we wer~ reluctant to cut trees
(for more core samples) toward the rear of the lot, where it would
probably meet requirements. We have been told there is a way to
collect the needed samples by means of a hand auger with extenders
(which do not disturb the environment), but that it is an extremely
difficult job. We plan to run those tests in July.
My purpose of this letter to you is to respectfully request that we
be allowed to retain ownership of Lot 4F for us and/or our heirs
until such time as the soil's percolation test meets the Municipality's
specifications or until sewer services are available to that subdivision
(perhaps within the next ten years). We could have our attorney draw
up such a statement for your approval. We would like the restriction
lifted so that we could retain 4F towards a retirement asset., and
hope this plan will meet with the Board's approval.
