Lot 31 (lot 2) Due to the soils log submitted to this department showing a 10% silt, a percolation test will be required on the above property. Any soils showing a percentage of silt over 5% requires a percolation test to be done. If there are any further questions, please call this department at 264-4720. Creek Dear Mr Stephenson: t ~ "~ ¢ This report is supplemental to our report dated August 14, 1980 and contained in the appendix of this report. The DEPT, OF HEALTH & ENVIRONMEN1'AL PROTECTION 00T7 1980 R, ECEIV [D purpose of this additional work was to perform a percolation test at the site. A second test pit. was dug to the east of the original explora- tion. That pit. ~s located on the enclosed test pit location sketch. The soils J.n this second pit varied considerably from those in the initial test pit. They were considerably siltier. A percolation test was run in the pit at 12' of depth. The results of that test for the last 20 minutes of the test was 10 minutes/inch. The soils got cleaner with depth from about 8.0' We, therefore, recon~end placing the absorption trench between 8.0' and 12.0' below the ground surface. No ground water was: encountered in either test pit... ¢~ 3. ilc e ¢. e.l.y, MRN: rb Enclosures _ I,'.,S l LAB ALASKA m' ,~ · l~e.].vJ.n R. Nichols, P.E. Laboratory Manager · , I~t°b" te ] I~/ T L. The property is near Bird Creek on the Seward Highway south of Anchorage. The test pit was dug while Mr. Paul was present with a backhoe which you contracted. The soils encountered are graphically shown on Figure 2 attached to this letter. The soil from the surface to 2.5 feet was a brown sandy gravelly silt. Below this layer is a dense sandy gravel having about 10 percent silt. The gravel is well graded and has occasional cobbles. A grain size distribution test was conducted on a sample of this soil. The results are attached as Figure 2. No ground water was encountered. The sandy gravelly silt is impervious, but the gravel underlying the silt is permeable. Based on our experience with simila~ soils, we would estimate its permeability is on the order of 10-- centimeters per second. We recommend that the septic system drainfield be designed to provide 150 square feet of absorption area per bedroom. The system should be designed and constructed in accordance with the Municipality of Anchorage regulations.
