This property, approximately five acres in area, is located in the NE 1/4, NW 1/4, Section 21, Township 12 North, Range 3 West, Seward Meridian, Alaska. The purpose of the investigation was tQ determine feasibility of on- site sewage disposal and proposed foundation construction within the regulations of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough. SITE DESCRI°TION The property in its natural state is gently sloping in the South at about 390 feet above sea level between O'Malley and Huffman Roads. Some adjacent sporadic development has been done. Vegetation consists of tall spruce and birch with heavy undergrowth. A structure and well exist on the extreme North end of the property. FIELD INVESTIGATION Test trenches were dug to determine the representative sub- surface soil strata. The test logs show the results of visual in- spection of these trenches. SUB-SURFACE SOILS AND CONDITIONS The U. S. Geological Survey Bulletin 1093 defines the soils in this area as Glaciofluvial ice-contact deposits. (Silts, sands and gravels associated with ground moraines). Soils in the test locations consist mainly of sand and gravelly sands overlain by small silt and organic layers. This is consistent with ~aterial exposed in a gravel pit South of the test site. Soils were moist but no water table or seepage was encountered. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS The area under investigation is judged suitable for on-site disposal and intended foundation construction° Earthwork shall com- ply with governing ordinances and regulations applicable at the time of development. Considering the gradient, ground cover, and the nature of the sub-surface sands and gravels, 110-130 square feet per bedroom is recommended as a factor for design of any on-site dis- posal system.
