Based on my observation the system is capable of absorbing 360 gallons per 24 hours, which is not sufficient for a three bedroom house. The conclusion is that a new septic system must be installed. A previous design based on a 4~ bedroom residence and a soil absorption rate of. 6 gal~ Per sq. Ft. per day has been rejected by DHSS because a lot line waiver was required as well as a waiver to the existing system. DHSS suggested that a system could be installed in the south half of the lot without any requirement for waivers. I am hesitant to design a system at this location due to presence of ground water and a soiltype that may liquefy in the presence of water. The ground water level during breakup is also a concern. The residence has been converted to a three bedroom house. This fact, and using an absorption rate of .8 gal. Will reduce the required length of the trench to 32 feet. A trench of this length can be installed as shown without encroaching on the lot line(s), the well radius, and the driveway to lot 2. The old log crib is also outside of the proposed trench. The only variance requested is the separation to the existing trench. A separation of 10 feet can be maintained, but not the required 14 feet. Please consider this request favorably. Williams Subject: Lot 1, Huisingh S/d Septic System Design Gentlemen; We are requesting a permit to replace the existing septic system on this lot. The present system encroaches on the protective well radius, and the Highway Right of Way and is not of the correct physical size with regard to the soil rating. There are limited space available in the north half of the lot. The south half has sloping ground and ground water was observed at 14.5 feet on July 27, 1995. The soil in the south half of the lot is also substantially siltier than the soil in the north half. Three testholes were excavated as shown on the siteplan. We prefer to install a deep trench where shown, due to the better soil and absence of ground water. In order to install the system we request a lot line waiver to 0 feet. Prior to installing the system we will locate the lot line and the protective well radius. We propose to use a STEP tank in order to shorten the trench by utilizing the soil from 3 feet to 10 feet. We do not intend to pressurize the discharge line. The existing trench was found with less than 2.5 feet of effluent. The old log crib was dry. The log crib will be removed and the excavation backfilled to proper depth. The separation distance between the existing trench and the proposed trench will bed less than ten feet. Since only 2.5 feet of effluent was observed in the existing trench the present trench will not interfere with the operation of the proposed trench. ToS P LAND 203 W 15th. (5) If there is a septic tank, it needs to be at least fifty(50) feet from the well. It will need to be uncovered to verify existence and pumped to verify its size.
