LOUNSBURY & ASSOCIATES 723 West 6th Avenue Anchorage, Alaska 99501 INTRODUCTION This report is the result of our field soil investigation conducted April 14, 1972 on the Lockhart Property: LOt 43, Dowling Subdivision, Anchorage, Alaska' The purpose of the investigation was to define in detail the soils conditions within the property,, and to determine if it was suitable for development utilizing a septic tank-seepage pit sewer system. INVESTIGATION Our investigation was by a case tractor mounted backhoe. Test holes were dug at two locations on the property. The first in the northwest corner and the second near the center. SUBSURFACE'SOILS CONDITIONS The first, hole in the northwest corner revealed t 1~2 foot of forest floor and topsoils, below this layer from I 1/2 to 4 1/2 feet is a layer of clean, gray well graded sand. Below the sand is a strata of blue gray silty clay to a depth beyond 12 feet. Test hole No. 2 revealed 1 1/2 feet of forest floor and topsoil. Then light brown clay followed by a gray brown silty clay to a depth below 12 feet. CONCLUSION From the information gathered during our investigation we conclude that it is not feasable to construct the aforementioned type of sewer system to serve this propert~ This decision is based primarily on the fact that the underlying silty clay is relatively imoerious to the percolation of water, therefore; no system may be constructed above or in this soil. The possible use of a holding tank is at present time allowed for a period not to exceed. 90 days.. Then only as an interim system while'awaiting connection to the Greater Anchorage Area Borough sanitary sewer system. Respectfully Submitted, HEWITT V.
