The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a private well and a private septic system, consisting of a 1000 gallon septic tank and a bed type drainfield. The drainfield is in a state of failure and needs to be upgraded. We are proposing to excavate the contaminated material and re -build the bed to the same elevation or higher with M.O.A. filter sand. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: One confirmation testhole was excavated near the existing bed. See the attached soil log for soil characteristics, groundwater monitoring and percolation test data. 2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: The average topography in the area of the proposed drainfields is t etively flat. However, there is a slope greater than 25% located 25 feet from the proposed drain- ZS 4•G. 5, SLOPE WAIVER: Due to site constraints, we are requesting a -3e -foot waiver to slopes in excess of 25%, See attached topo drawing and profile drawing justifying the waiver request. During our inspection, the drainfield was surcharged and no effluent was seen daylighting from the slopes. 6. BED WIDTH WAIVER: The original bed was 18 feet wide. We are proposing to re -build it to the same distension. Care will be taken during construction to keep the equipment off of the footprint of the bed. DRAINFIELD TO FOUNDATION WAIVER: The existing drainfield appears to be approximately 7.3 feet from the foundation. We request you waive the distance from the drainfield to the foundation to 5 feet. We do not believe that the distance and configuration of the drainfield poses a significant risk to the integrity of the foundation.
