SEPTIC ADEQUACY TEST REPORT _EGAL: Lot 17, Creekside Park Subdv,#2, _OCATION: Anchorage, Alaska RESIDENCE: Single family, 5 Bedroom NATER SYSTEH: Public Water PUMP yIELD: N/A NELL YIELD: N/A SEPTIC SYSTEM: From Municipal Records Tank: 1200 gallons (from pumping). Absorbtion SyStem: unknown, assume seepage pit INSTALLED ABSORBTION AREA: unknown ORIGINAL SOIL RATING: 85 from original soil log INSTALLATION DATE: 1964 TEST PROCEDURE: The septic tank provided the only acess to test the system therefore the tank levels were monitored referencing a measurement below the top of the standpipe. During the test water was added through the oleanout tube and the tank water level was monitored as water was added in 20 gallon increments and then absorbed into the surrounding soil. Measurements were taken after each 20 gallon water additiOn. The first 50 gallons of water added to the tank caused a rise of 6" in the tank water level. The monitoring indicates the system will accept the required 150 gallons per day of effluent, oer bedroom, but fails based on system surge capacity. It should be realized that the proper testing of this septic system is severly handicapped in that there is only'one access tube through which to monitor system performance. A failure in surge capacity could be caused-by clogged pipes and the physical condition of the septic tank. The testing engineer would suggest excavation to provide a monitor tube to the seepage pit and a retest using this monitor. This however is not practical as the owner will be abandoning the septic system in favor of public sewer as'it becomes available in the near future. The owner is also advised that to obtain approval of the existing septic system, if that option is preferred, the'MOA may require verification of the septic syste~ design as no installation records are available. ~EST RESULTS: The Septic system was failed based on lack of surge capacity. The operational life and the matter of compliance with State and Municipal codes for all water and septic systems depends on the local soil conditions, groundwater levels that may not be observed from the surface without additional testing, water usage of the homes being served by the system, and the detail of required testing. The test data and investigat'~pn of ~xis.ting conditions is provided to our client for submittal to the Municipal.~Health Department for their review and approval. Any concerns wifh ~this test report should be discussed with the testing engineer. If it is requested.we will submit the report directly to the Municipality. Final approval is based on Municipal determination. Box 773294 Eagle River, Alaska 99577 Telephone (907) 694-5195 May 9, 1986 Mr. Steve Morris Civil Engineer, On-site Services Municipality of Anchorage P.O. Box 1966§0 Anchorage, AK 99519 REF: Lot 17, Creekside Subdivision #2 MAY 1 $1986 RECEIVED Dear Mr. Morris: On behalf of my client, Mr. Albert Patterson, I am submitting the information necessary for a determination of Health Authority approv- al for the above referenced lot. The leachfield was installed in 1964 by the owner at that time and I assume was inspected and approved by the Municipality. A search of your files has produced only a soil log (enclosed) and a letter specifying an 8xSx6' log seepage pit. The soil log is not adequate for determining depth to any water table. There is no inspection report on file at MOA. The septic system was tested for absorbtion rate and while having the ability to absorb 450 GPD there is less than 60 gallons of surge capacity. An addition of the initial 50 gallons of testing water caused an immediate rise of 6" in the septic tank. According to the owner there is a sewer service being constructed this spring along the back lot line , to which he can connect. As there is no immediate health hazard with this septic system, we are asking that a conditional permit be issued allowing escrow of funds to connect to public sewer and properly abandon the septic system within a reasonable period of time. As the system was previously approved by MOA the resulting approval is left to your determination. Verification has been made of connection to AWWU public water. If there are any questions or if additional information is required please feel free to contact me at 694-5195. Sincerely, ~Lou Butera. P.E.
