Re- Soils Investigation Subdivision of E½,NE¼,NE¼,SE¼,S26,T12N,R3W,SM Dear Ms. Collier; In response to your request we have performed a ~rel~minary soils investigation of the above named property. The purpose of this investigation was solely to provide subsurface data for use by the Municipality o~ Anchorage Dept. of Health and Enviromental Protection (DHEP) in determining the suitability for on-site waste water disposal. On May 19, 1983 we drilled 3 test borings to 20 feet with adjacent shallow borings for percolation testing. Each set of holes was on a different proposed lot as shown on a preliminary subdivision drawing by Hewitt V. Loundsbury & Associates. The borings were drilled with a Bombardier mounted drill rig using 6" solid auger owned and operated by Oosik Drilling, Inc. The 20 foot holes were'logged and samples were kept for later laboratory analysis should that be required by DHEP. The soils were classified visually in the field according to the Unified Soi-ls Classification System and were not verified with laboratory analyses. A one inch perforated pipe was installed in each test hole for later .obsefivation of any water table. After drilling each deep test hole a second boring was made to the most likely strata for percolation testing. The perc holes were placed about 5 feet from each deep test hole. A 4 inch perforated pipe was. installed in the perc hole and gravel placed around &nd inside the pipe. 12 to 18 inches of water was poured into each perc hole and the holes were left to soak overnight. On May 20 I drove to the site and measured the percolation rates according to DHEP standards. Soils information and percolation rates are shown on the enclosed attachments'.' One of the test and percolation hole pairs (Lot 3) showed a high ground water level and extremely slow percolation rate. There S 71 2 ¢., .2... 01983 is a failed septic system approximately lOOft from the holes which could be causing the problem with water running immediately below the surface. Mr Robert Robinson of the DHEP told me that they will probably approve the subdivision for on-site waste water disposal if two thirds of the subdivision perc holes are satisfactory and there is no reason to' assu~e a suitable location c2n not be found for the remaining lot. It must be understood, however, that another percolation test will be required and it must pass before construction on Lot 3. All separation distances required by DHEP will apply. Thank you for this opportunity to be of service.' If you Fequire more testing please let me know. Dear Mr. Robinson, Please refer to your file on the subdivision of the above described property. Preliminary plat approval has been granted with two DHEP provisions. 1. Soils test on Lot 1 2. 90 day ground water level monitoring I am unsure why item one was required. Lot i has an existing house connected to a septic tank and crib shown on my original subdivision sketch. There is no visible breakout (water on surface) within a 50 foot or so radius of the crib. The crib is located a little over 90 feet from the dwelling's well. Please consider this my report on the ground water levels measured July 28, 1983. Lot 3 - T.H. I - Dry - Bottom of hole 14 feet Lot 4 - T.H. 2 - Dry - Bottom of hole 19 feet Lot 2 - T.H. 3 - Dry - Bottom of hole 19 feet Lot 3 is the one that had high ground water in May, supposedly because of a failed septic system nearby. That system's use was discontinued about July 1, 1983. Let me know your comments on item number one and if we need another ground water measurement next month. Thank yo~ / v '~leil HaWthorne, P.E.
