Dear Mr. Leonard: At your request of July 8, 1978, I conducted a soils investigation at the proposed location of a sanitary sewer system on the subject lot. This investigation, which was accomplished on July 8, 1978, consisted of the inspection of soils removed during digging of a test pit using a backhoe to a total depth of 14.0 feet. The topography of the area where the soils test was conducted, is generally sloping in a west to northwest direction at approximately a 5-10% grade. Vegetation consists of large spruce and birch, with alders, willows and devils club, including a low ground cover of mosses and grasses. The soils encountered are graphically shown on the accompanying test hole log. The soils consisted of a layer of Organic silt with some Sand 1.5 feet thick overlying a Silty Sand with a trace of Gravel and occasional Cobbles to a total depth of 14 feet. No water table was encountered. A percolation test was performed in a hand augered, 8 inch diameter, 26 inch deep test hole, on a 3 foot deep bench dug by the backhoe at the side of the test pit. An accompanying sheet graphically shows the location of the percolation test hole and tabulates the results of the percolation test. The accompanying sheet containing the test hole log, includes a sketch showing the subject lot with the approximate locations of the test hole and the proposed house in relation to the property lines. I apreciate the opportunity to be of service to you. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this soils investigation. Very truly yours, ~man~ Consul~ng Geologist Box 191, Star Route A Anchorage, Alaska 99502 (907)344-9150 Attachments: Drawing of test hole log with location sketch, and sketch of percolation test hole location with tabulated test results. xc: Department of Health and Environmental Protection.
