Monitor tubes were however, installed at both ends of the field. We are requesting approval of the inspection report for the system as installed. Approval is justified based on the following points: • The system has adequate monitoring tubes for monitoring, inspection, and testing. • The location of the angle point is not likely to impact the location of future septic system components, wells, or other developments. • The attached photo shows the location of the angle point. • The leachfield is relatively short and the angle is relatively shallow. Longer fields sharper angles could more easily be mis-constructed or have their effective length be mis-represented. • Re-Excavation of the trench to install a monitor tube is likely to disturb and contaminate the sewer rock and would be detrimental to the long term operation of the field. The existing leachfield is operating in a state of failure and was not able to pass an adequacy test. The design is based on existing soils information. The 2007 S&S testhole is located near the proposed system and is the basis for design. The soils log for the testhole indicates that an “Adequate amount of sand will pass a #4 sieve, and will provide adequate filter”. The design was approved with a 1.2 gpd/sqft application rate. Other percolation tests on file for the lot, revealed a percolation rate of around 10 minutes per inch. Groundwater is not expected to be an issue for the design of this system. The groundwater monitor tube installed at the septic tank was dry at the time of inspection. The design of the replacement system will be based on an application rate of 0.8 gpd/sqft and soil conditions will be verified during construction. The bottom of the field will lie in the SP layer. Based on the soil log, there appears to be 1-foot of SP material between the bottom of the field and the GM layer. Because the SP layer is relatively free draining and we are using a conservative wastewater application rate, we believe the limited thickness of the SP layer between the bottom of the trench and the GM layer is justified. Further, the GM layer appears to have been perc’d at three locations on this lot and Gould Lot 1 with percolation rates ranging from 10.9 to 10 minutes per inch. The percolation rate is consistent with the wastewater application rate used in design. The work must be performed by a moa certified installer in accordance with MOA requirements. A diverter valve should be installed to allow the existing system to be used in the future. The diverter valve is optional. Installation of the proposed system will not negatively impact adjacent lots. Impacts to drainage are not anticipated.
