As you are aware. a permit was not issued for the installation, which was done by the homeowner. A test hole revealed a sandy gm material near the East end of the drainfield. A subsequent testhole revealed a silty sm material near the West end of the drainfield. see attached soils log. We are requesting approval of the leachfield, the installed system is adequate to meet the needs of the 2 bedroom home. A diverter valve was installed to connect the old crib to the system When the home installed system does eventually fail. the diverter can be switched to the old crib which will likely have recovered to functional condition. It is believed that the old crib system will recover within the next 2 years, and may become adequate for use and future adequacy testing at that time. Well to Septic Separation Distances. We are requesting a waiver be granted for 75' from the well to the septic leachfield. The onsite well is not logged, however neighboring well logs show a water table of approximately 200 feet and at least one clay layer between the surface and the aquifer. The presence of the clay layer makes it exceptionally difficult for raw effluent, or nitrates to contaminate the well. The well depth is indicated as 207' on the septic inspection report dated 5/1972. Surface contamination of the well from the leachfield is not of concern. as the leachfield is down gradient of the well. Note that the existing 750 gallon concrete tank is only 54' from the well, which was code compliant when it was installed in 1972. While 75 feet is significantly less than the code required 100' separation. we believe granting the waiver does not present an adverse health risk to the occupants of the trailer. or the neighboring lots. The depth of the well and soil conditions are the primary mitigating factors. Water samples may be desirable prior to granting this waiver. It may be advisable to take water samples after the system has been in place for a period of months or years to determine if the well will have nitrate issues C&M Engineering will defer to the MOA's judgment on if and when samples should be drawn. Encroachment on Lot 20. The leachfield encroaches on a significant portion of lot 20. The owner of lot 19 also owns lot 20, and has filed an access agreement for the encroachment. We are requesting a waiver from the lot line to the leachfield for 0 feet of separation. Leachfield encroachment to existing crib. We are requesting a waiver of the leachfield to crib separation distance to 8'. The last 20' of the new leachfield encroaches on the required separation. The soils near the encroachment location were found to be free draining and would tend to reduce interference between the two systems. Additionally, little can be done as the system is already installed. Driveway Crossing. The leachfield crosses under a driveway which provides access to an old building pad, currently used to park a trailer. The driveway will be blocked using railroad ties staked into the ground, as shown on the drawing. Included with this letter is a site plan, calculations, neighboring well logs and a soil log. Test Hole Limitations. The original test hole TH-1, was excavated by the homeowner and a monitor tube was installed to a depth of 16' the engineer did not verify the soils below six feet of depth at this location. However, the owner reported the soils were relatively consistent to the full depth. A review of neighboring well and soils logs revealed no impermeable layers or groundwater concerns in the immediate area, to a depth well below the depth concerning this system. For example, Lake Hill Acres#1 lot 14 and 11 have test holes to a depth of 16' with similar soils and no groundwater. Many of the well logs in the area are either missing or illegible, however, the well log for lot 36 indicates a clay layer at a depth of about 20', while the well log at lot 9 indicates a no impermeable layers until much deeper. We believe this information, coupled with the lack of groundwater in the monitoring tube indicates that there is no impermeable layer within 6' of the bottom of the system. A second test hole TH-2 was excavated by Guaranteed Services to a depth of 14', depth was limited by the size of the equipment, near the West end of the trench.
