ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING: 71-014 (9/76) August 17, 1979 R&H No. 951270 Rick Johnston 4325 Laurel Street Anchorage, Alaska 99504 Subject: So~l Investigation for Sanitary' Sewer System, BLM Lot 227A, Anclhorage, Alaska Dear Mr. Joh~ston: At your request of August 15, 1979, we conducted a subsurface soils investi- gat. ion at the proposed location of the sanitary sewer system on the subject lot.. The in. vestigation complied with those procedures required by the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Environmental Protection. This invest:igatio~, which was accomplished on August 16, 1979, consisted of a test hole excavated to a depth of 14 feet below the ex~isting ground surface. The test hole was sited according to your instructions and its location is ~;hown in attached Drawing A-O1. Excavation was accomplished with a Case 780 backhoe. In addition, all material excavated was continuously monitored by an experienced engineering geologist. The topography at the excavation site is; generally horizontal. At the time of the investigation th.e site had original v~getat:ion t:onsistiug of 12-inch diameter spru. ce trees. The top of the test hole was located at original ground surface. ].h_ soi].s e~countered in the excavation are shown in the test hole log in Drawing A-0]. This log displays specific conditions encountered at the test location, l[owever, subsurface conditions may vary in other parts of the lot without any apparent surficial evidence of 'the change. Groundwater was not encountered, and bedrock was not encountered. At the time the hole was excavated, seasonal frost was not present, and permafrost, was not encountered. A percolation test was performed within the bore hole at the depth shown in thc attached Table ]. All. depths were measured from the top of the hole. The data in I'able 1 show average infiltration from the depths indicated to the [)ottom of the hole. The measured percolation rate was 10 minutes per inch.
