On December 22, 1986, I performed an adequacy test and a Health Authority inspection, See attached adequacy test results. Refering to the site plan diagram, there is a stream that runs through this lot. The separation distance from the stream to the septic tank and trench is 87 feet and approximately 82 feet respectively. The sewer system as-built does not show this stream. The bend in the stream that is closest to the sewer system has a log retaining wall built up on the south bank to keep the stream in its current path. This portion of the stream is downslope from the sewer system. The general contour of the lot slopes from the tank towards the stream, and from the trench, the slope is towards the west. LOT 4, BLOCK Soils and Ground Water One boring, Test Hole 4-11' was drilled on this lot in the 1980 exploration program. This boring, located on the upper portion of the lot, encountered sandy silt to a depth of three feet overlying gravelly sandy silt to a depth of l0 feet. The gravelly sandy silt graded into a very silty sandy gravel at a depth of approximately 10 feet to 16 feet, the maximum depth explored. No ground water was encountered while drilling, however, several ~-~ [~.> days later a water level of six feet below the ground surface was observed.' It is suspected that this water is from near surface downslope seepage and is not indicative of a general high water table. However, the ground water level is probably high in the northern portion of the lot. A small well ~n~ ~.t~a~.~ns through this area. Two landform units are present on the lot. The upper part of the lot is in a glacial 'till, the eastern portion in a kame terrace alluvial deposit and the northern half of the lot in an alluvial stream deposit. The soils in alluvial deposits consist chiefly of clean sands ~nd gravels and were deposited when much greater .quantities of water flowed down the stream. Test Pit 22 located on the adjacent lot is typical probably of conditions on the terrace western part of the lot and Test Pit 28 and Boring 5-2 typical of the alluvial deposits now ~ccupied by a small stream. Location of Septic System The preferred location of the septic system is the southwest portion of the lot on the terrace deposits. The northern portion of the lot may have a high water table and is close to the stream and the ,~stern part of the lot, less permeable soils. The system should be at least 100 feet away from the stream. The .steep slopes!may require the use of drop boxes or overflow pipes to distribute the effluent. If clean gravel or sand (less th~n 10 percent silt) is encountsred, the absorption area can be reduced to 125 square feet per bedroom.
