OF ENVIRONMENT~kL CONSERVATION / A~HOflA~E 99581 June 3, 1975 Mr. Rolf Strickland, Chief Sanitarian Department of Environmental Quality Greater Anchorage Areai~Borough 3330 C Street Anchorage, AK 99503 Subject: Lots 9 and 10 Block 3 South Wood Park Subdivision Dear Mr. Strickland: Based on discussions we have had with the builder as long as the following stipulations are met we have no objections to the con- struction 6f dwellings on these lots. 1. All waste lines carrying sewage shall be ca or duct~ /-~'. iron. 2. Any line within the 100 foot radius of the well will be also incased in a minimum of 6 inches of concrete. 3. Any of these lines outside 100 feet but within 200 feet of the well will be cast iron. It is our information that the builder will locate these dwellings at leaste75 feet from the well. With the above stip61ations we feel that the Public Health will be protected. In addition we have Seen provided with information from the realitor that Central Alaska Utilities intends to abandon this well within the near future. Southwood Park Subdivision L~ar Mr. ~m~it~.~ lbo Greater ~chorage Area Borough [~alth ~epartment made m~ inspection of the subject well during August o£ 1969. ~is survey sho~ed that there were nine (9) sewage disposal systems within the 200' protective radii o£ the subject well. Your Co~pany was contacted regarding this situation in regards to the ultimate fate of tho well. [te ~ere informed that the well ~ to be capped off ~d bo put out of se~ice during the 1970 const~tion sea- son. ~iS w~ be~e ~e ~ell w~ shall~ (60-70~ ~ep) ~d w~ not a large producing well. Based on this inforaation £rom your Co~pany, no immediate action was taken to have tile nine (9) systems ~)vod. Also~ basedon this ilffor- mation~ per, its for additional on-site disposal syste~ on Lots 36 and 37~ 5lock 3, were issued and the systems were installed during the spring of 1970. t~e have now heard tJmt this well is bei~g reworked to give increased pro- duction and not removed £re~ the system. ~e feel that if this well is not taken out of production, the nbue (9) older sewer systems and t~o (2) re- cent ones present a signi£icm~t health hazard to this well.
