The design was based on the "Manual of Septic Tank Practice". Design 1. Sewage flow 6 units x 4 people/unit x 60 gal/person/day = 1440 gal/day Increase for washing facilities 40% Increase for garbage disposals 20% 6O% Total sewage flow (Q) = 1.6 x 1440 2304 gal/day Septic tank capacity (V) 1125 + 0.75 Q = 2804 gal Use 3000 gal or larger tank. Seepage trench size Rate soil at 25 min/inch (conservative) = 1.0 gal/sq.ft./day Use washed gravel from 4 to 12' depth (8' section). Trench length = 2304 gal/day x 1 x 1 = 144' 1.0 gal/sq.ft./d~ 8'section x 2 sides highways · airports · drainage . planning · shopping centers · subdivisions · streets · v~'ater · sewag~ Piping Use 6" diameter pipe at 2% slope from building to tank and from tank to trench. At building, place pipe at 2' depth. Depth at trench = 2' + (0.02) 75' = 3.5' (assuming level ground); 4' OK. Summary 1. 3000 gal. or larger septic tank 2. Trench length - 144', trench depth 12', gravel depth 8' Piping from building to tank and trench shall be 6" dia. cast iron or plastic (ASTM D3034) pipe at 2% minimum slope. Cleanouts, sumps, replacement site, and other requirements are. shown on the attached two sheets. In addition, it is strongly recommended that we inspect the seepage trench prior to backfilling to confirm the design soil conditions. Please call if you have any comments or questions. Engineering- Planning- Surveying 1020 west International Airport Road Anchorage,Alaska 99502 Telephone(907) 279-5522 March 15, 1979 Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Environmental Protection 825 "L" Street Anchorage, Alaska Attention: Mr. Rolf Strickland Dear Mr. Strickland: On behalf of Mr. Bob Tirapelli, we hereby apply for a permit for an on-site sewage disposal system for his proposed 6- unit development on Lot 12 of Stockhausen Subdivision in Peters Creek. The attached drawing shows the proposed well and disposal system locations, as well as the existing systems of his neighbors. Six test holes were drilled in July, 1978 by Denali Drilling of Anchorage. The drilling, which encountered glacial deposits of sand, gravel, cobbles, silt and boulders, continued until drilling refusal at 10 to 16 feet, because of boulders. The water table was not encountered. The test hole logs are shown on the drawing. Numerous percolation tests were performed, as tabulated on the attached sheets. After some unsatisfactory tests in the southwest part of the lot (TH 4 & 5), we tested TH 2 & 3, which yielded percolation rates of about 11 to 14 minutes/ inch during three tests. Apparently the soils of TH 4 & 5 contain more interstitial silt. In our opinion, the proposed sewage disposal system can be located where shown on the drawing. We recommend a percola- tion rate of 25 minutes/inch (conservative) which results in a maximum rate of sewage application of 1.0 gal/sq.ft./day. A drainfield trench with washed gravel from 2 to 12 feet in highways · airports · drainage ° planning · shopping centers · subdivisions ° streets · water ° sewage depth appears suitable. In addition, the excavation should be inspected before backfilling in order to confirm the subsurface conditions. Please call if you have any comments or questions.
