Please find the attached re-submittal of final asbuilt information for the above project. The
following is to address the review comments received:
1. There was no septic integrity check performed during construction. I was un-aware of this
requirement. I now understand that these have been requested in upgrade situations for a few
years now. This house is relatively new and there have been no other indications of leakage in
this case,
2. Soils elevations are now shown on sheet three of three.
3. The excavator was given permission to install the system conditional on attending the
Certification Course in July 1996, which he did.
4. All elevations are now shown.
5. The diverter valve was a "Zable 2-200-D" Diverter Valve purchased from Keni Supply.
6. The PVC pipe used was D-3034 as specified in the notes of the original design,
7. There are 2 stand-pipes shown for the existing septic tank.
8 The bottom of the drain field is pushing the limits of the test hole depth. This is because of
the depth of the existing pipe that we were connecting into and because of the limit of the
backhoe used to dig the test hole. The final depth of the field is only 0.6 ft lower than the original
design Based on the geography of the lot and other well logs and test hole data in the vicinity, I
feel that additional test hole work may not be necessary to determine the potential of ground
water and bedrock complications in this case.

RE: Radford Septic Upgrade Approval L20 Tanaina Hills Subd.

Please find the attached application an upgraded drain-field system for the above
property.
DESIGN NARRATIVE
The original well and septic system were installed on this lot in 1981. The owners
report that is not absorbing the sewage of the family. The proposed upgrade field will
be located parallel to the existing field and tie into the existing tank outlet with a field
switching valve that will allow the existing field to be used after a rest period. No
additions or improvements are planed for the house. Lots in this subdivision are one
acre plus in size. Adjacent septic systems are greater than 200 ft from the proposed
field. The proposed improvements will have no negative affects on surrounding wells
or septic systems. There will be no affect to drainage in the area, all water bodies and
streams are greater than 200 ft away. There is adequate space on the lot to allow for
an alternate drain field.

Dear Mr. Wien:
The waiver previously granted by this department for the subject lot
was re-evaluated using the waiver evaluation procedures adopted by the
State Department of Environmental Conservation and outlined in a memorandum
from Bruce Erickson dated January 3, 1985. Based on this evaluation
procedure, please consider the existing waiver of the well to septic tank
'distance to 80 feet valid for the subject lot. Examination of the conditions
on the subject lot indicated that there was very little potential for
contamination of well from the septic tank.
