DATE: 72-008 (Rev. 4/85) ON-SIT~ WAS'£~A'£~ DISPOSAL CONSTRUCTION ~RACTIC~S MA'£~KIAL SPECIFICATIONS R]f~(ENC~: Ginami Hills Subdivision; Lot 7B The scope of this project includes the installation of a 500 gallon septic tank effluent pumping (S.T.E.P.) system and two absorption beds to serve the four bedroom residence located on the referenced property. The existing septic tank is to be excavated to verify its integrity. If of poor integrity, the tank is to be excavated, pumped, crushed and abandoned in place and a new 1500 gallon septic tank effluent pumping (S.T.E.P.) system installed. The existing trench is to be abandoned in place. Construction shall be in accordance with the approved site plan and design drawings, Municipal permit with any special provisions or conditions, and all applicable State and Municipal Wastewater Disposal Regulations. The contractor shall be responsible for obtaining any necessary underground utility locates. Unless specifically agreed otherwise, the property owner shall be responsible for final grading areas subsequently depressed from soil settling. On all leachfield mound systems, the property owner shall be responsible for ensuring a satisfactory vegetation growth over the mounded area. Contractors installing wastewater disposal systems must be certified by the Municipal Health Department for system installations. Owners installing their own systems must also receive prior approval from the Municipal Health Department. 1. A septic tank is to be constructed by a certified septic tank manufacturer. Construction shall include two 4" cleanouts for pumping access. The septic tank shall be sufficiently bedded to prevent settling or shifting of the tank. Ail standpipes on the septic tank shall extend a minimum of 12 inches above final grade. 4. Septic tanks installed with less than 4' of cover shall be insulated. Page Two Ginami Hills Subdivision; Lot 7B July 08, 1994 5o e A foundation cleanout shall be installed one to four feet from the building foundation. In the line between the tank and the leachfield there shall be two adjacent cleanouts (unless an effluent pumping system exists within the septic tank). These cleanouts shall be located on undisturbed soil not more than 10' from the tank. The first cleanout, in line, shall be to clean toward the leachfield. The second cleanout shall be to clean toward the septic tank. Final grading over the septic tank shall be such that a positive slope exists away from the septic tank. P~F. qSURIZED M(]~ND ~"fSTEM INSTALLATION: 1. Any peat or organic matter must be removed from the elevated mound site. 2. The bottom of the basal bed area as well as the top of the sand filter is to be within two inches of level. 3. The distribution piping is to be of P¥C (ASTM D3034 or equal). Ail joints are to be solvent cemented. 4. The side slopes of the top layer of the mound system must not be steeper than 33% (3:1). 5. The top of the mound shall be covered with a minimum of 6 inches of topsoil and vegetated sufficiently to prevent erosion. e The distribution pipes are to be embedded in sewer rock. Care should be taken to backfill in such a way as to prevent damage to the piping system. e Silt barrier material must be installed between the final gravel layer and the native soil backfill. Ensure the silt barrier covers the entire gravel surface before placing backfill. Backfill over the final gravel layer must not be less than twenty-four (24) inches. Insulation must be installed when the backfill depth is less than thirty-six (36) inches. MINI34UM MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS: 1. Any septic tank proposed for installation must be constructed by a Municipally approved septic tank manufacturer. Page Three Ginami Hills Subdivision; Lot 7B July 08, 1994 2. Insulation shall be at least 2" thick extruded direct burial polystyrene (Dow Chemical Company Styrofoam HI or equal). Septic tank inlets and outlets shall be fitted with watertight couplings (Caulder, Fernco, or equal). A permeable nontoxic silt barrier (Typar 3401, Mirafi 140/N, or equal) must be installed between the final leachfield gravel layer and the native soil backfill. Ail leachfield gravel (sewer rock) shall be 0.5"-2.5" screened gravel with less than 3% passing the ~200 sieve. When sand is being used as a filter material, its gradation specifications must conform to current M.O.A. or D.E.C. requirements. INSPECTIONS: Typically there will be a minimum of three (3) inspections required during the installation of the wastewater disposal system. These inspections will occur as follows: The first inspection must be conducted after the excavation of ditches, pits, trenches, or beds and before the installation of any gravel. A septic tank may be set in place, but may not be backfilled before this inspection. e The second inspection must be conducted after the placement of the silt barrier, gravel, distribution lines, standpipes, cleanouts, and insulation, but before the placement of any other backfill. Often there will be more than these 3 inspections required, especially with the installation of multiple trenches, sand filters, pressurized distribution systems, etc. Thus, the inspecting engineer is to be contacted at least 24 hours prior to the start of construction. If necessary, a pre-construction meeting will take place on-site. The inspecting engineer will not coordinate, direct or control in any way the contractor's activities. The owner shall contract with the contractor to perform the work outlined in these specifications and plans and in accordance with the attached M.O.A. permit. There will be no contractual arrangement existing between the contractor and S & S Engineering. S & S Engineering shall be the owner's representative and will inspect the work as stated above to document the contractor's activities. Final acceptance of the contractor's work rests with the owner and the M.O.A. S & S Engineering shall have no liability to the owner or to others for acts or omissions of the contractor or any other persons performing work on this project or the failure of the contractor to carry out the work in accordance with these construction documents. S & S Engineering's inspecting engineer will not be responsible for the construction means, methods, techniques, sequence, procedures or the safety precautions incident to this project. The rig is owned and operated by Denali Drilling Inc. Drilling was supervised and the test holes logged by Mr. Terry Barber, 'geologist with Alaska Testlab. The percolation test was run by Mr. R. Mark Hansen~ engineer with Alaska Testlab. The test hole was placed at the approximate location shown on Figure 2. The log of this test hole is included as Table A of this report. In interpreting the log it would be helpful to utilize the explanatory information contained in sheets 1 to 3 of this report. When dri. lling was completed a 3/4" slotted PVC pipe was inserted in the hole to aid in determining the free water level. For the percolation test, the test hole was filled with water and left overnight to saturate. On returning the next day the hole was refilled with water and the drop in the water level carefully monitored over the next two hours. E. J. Schuster May 17, 1976 Page 2 This procedure is not a standardized percolation test, however, we understand that the Anchorage Department of Environmental Quality prefers tests performed in this manner to evaluate a site for a p~oposed on-site sewerage system. using the above test, the observed minimum percolation rate was 24 minutes per inch. No water table was observed during drilling, but ~t should be noted that the free water level normally fluctuates seasonally and with precipitation. We hope this report meets your present needs. Service Contract - Continued Page Two This service guarantees to make two (2) service and inspection calls per year at regular intervals and to respond promptly to any emergency calls for repair service. Unscheduled emergency or service calls not due to malfunction of or defective sewage treatment units shall be paid for by the sewage treatment plant owner~ Although the regular service and inspection calls 'during the first twenty-four (24) months of installation will be free to the sewage treatment plant owners, the sewage treatment plant owner shall be required to pay the Service Contractor's road time for travel on an average scale computed by averaging road time costs for the number of plant customers in the area of the service call. Inspection service calls will include the following: 1. An effluent quality inspection consisting of a visual check for color and examination for odors. 2. Adjustment and servicing of any mechanical and electrical components that are out of order· 3. Ba.ckwashi. ng of filter media or replacement of filter media with pre* vio~ly washed filters. 4° Periodic sampling, twice a year if necessary, of the effluent quality, and of the settled solids in the aeration tank.
