Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Reft Proposed Well and Septic System Design for Lot 17, Bear Park Subdivision To whom it may concern: The proposed 3 bedroom house will be served by a private well and septic System. Two test holes were excavated on the property ~vhere the proposed septic system will be located. The primary septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radius of test hole #1 and the alternate site around the 30 foot radius around test hole #2. We are proposing that a 1000 gallon septic tank and a deep trench type drainfield be installed for the primary site. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached are the logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. The soils below the organic layers are a GM material with silt to a depth of 4 to 5 feet in both test holes; and then transitions to a GM/SM material with lenses of SMfML material throughout to a depth of 17.5 feet in TH#1 and 15 feet in TH#2 (bottom of test holes). No groundwater was encountered during the excavation of TH#l, but groundwater was encountered in TH#2 at 13 feet. The monitoring tubes have been recently checked and found TH#1 to be dry and TH#2 had groundwater at 11 feet. A pemolation test was performed for TH#1 between the depth of 8.0 feet to 8.5 feet which had a percolation rate of 2.0 minute/inch. A percolation test was performed for TH#1 between the depth of 6.0 feet to 6.5 feet which had a pemolation rate of 4.4 minute/inch. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, a application rate of 0.8 gallons/day/fl2 should be used. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 2.0 & 4.4 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.8 gallons/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 563 122 f. Total Depth: 11 feet (max.) g. Effective absorption area = 600 122 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached design, the a proposed trench is to be installed near the base of slope that runs fi:om approximately east to west at a 5 to 10 percent grade; in short, there are no slope concerns. The trench is to be installed parallel to slope contours. 5. LOT LINE WAIVER REQUEST: We request that a 5 foot lot line waiver be granted from the west property line to the primary and alternate site. The homeowners would like to eventually build a barn/shed northwest of the house and would like as much buildable area and access. We are unaware of any adverse effects this would have on the adjacent property with the granting of this waiver.
