Lot 12 – 13741 Ervin Road Septic system design Dear On-Site Services Engineer: The owner of the above lot has a 4-bedroom home on the property with a septic system that is nearing the end of its life, so we are submitting this permit application for the construction of a new septic system. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home as well as the water well, existing septic location, and proposed septic system location. No conflicts exist between this proposed system and any other well or septic system, whether on this lot or adjacent lots. The ground surface on the lot is mostly flat and the proposed septic system will be located in the septic reserve site near the southwest property corner. There are no slopes greater than 25% within 50 feet downslope of the proposed site. Contour lines are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow. Stormwater drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trench will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible. The new system will be greater than 100’ from all wells and surface water, and more than 14’ away from the existing trench. A new septic tank will also be placed a minimum of 5’ from the existing trench. Please refer to the attached plan and profile pages for the septic design. Materials encountered were slightly different than those found in Testholes No. 1 and 2. A percolation test performed on the soils at a depth of 5.5' to 6.5' revealed an absorption rate of 25 minutes per inch which is somewhat slower than the 14 minutes per inch found in the other testholes. The system has been redesigned for a deep trench with 7' effective depth due to the slower percolation rate. The revised site plan along with the revised trench cross section are attached for your review. Please issue the permit for construction of the septic system based on the revised information. Health & Human Services Dear On Site Services Engineer: The owner of the subject lot hereby requests a permit to construct a septic system to serve a new four bedroom home. The location of the system is shown on the attached Site Plan. Testholes and percolation testing completed on the subsurface soils indicate excellent conditions for onsite treatment. The only hindrance ~s the Class C well located east of the lot. Setbacks are shown on the Site Plan. The topography of the lot slopes from north to south from 2% to 5%. it is fairly flat in the easterly to westerly direction. No groundwater was found in the testhole at depths over 12'. The bottom of the trench has been designed for a maximum elevation of 8' below the ground surface. No bedrock is known to exist in the area. If the absorption trench is placed in the location shown the following statements can be made: The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells in the area or those to be constructed in the future. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse mpact on existing septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserved space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area. The septic system was installed and approved by the MOA in 1998. The well was drilled prior to August of 1983, but the exact date is unknown. In August of 1983 a septic system was installed on DeArmoun S/D, Lot 11. According to MOA records, the septic system drainfield was installed 97.5 feet away from the well on Lot 12. A waiver was requested on 8/22/83, but there is no indication that it was ever granted. According to our field measurements (using a Topcon GPT-1003 total station), the distance from the well to the closest trench clean-out (east end of trench) 94.96 feet. To account for the trench width, we are assuming that the sidewall is as close as 93.5 feet from the well. To be conservative, we are requesting your department grant a 92 foot separation distance waiver from the well on Lot 12 to the drainfield on Lot I 1. Justification for the waiver is summarized as follows: · Both lots are generally flat, with a slight grade from east to west. There is a slight mound and heavy vegetation between the well on the subject property and the neighboring septic system. If the septic system was to overflow, it appears that the effluent would not travel toward the well head. · The location of the septic system is in a very visible area so that if any effluent was to surface, it would be noticed and the problem corrected. The other path of contamination is subsurface migration of the drainfield effluent. As can be seen on the attached well logs, the aquifer is relatively deep, with 150+ feet of silt, sand, and hardpan soils that have served to inhibit the migration of untreated wastewater into the aquifer. Recent water sample results (8/9/01) indicated non-detectable nitrate levels and no bacteria, which confirms that the aquifer quality has not been diminished by this encroachment. The distance from the veil Co the closest part of the leach field vas found to be 97.5 feet, end 102 feet from the furthest end. The septic tank is 110 feet from the veil. Mr. torture is no longer worried about the distance between the system end his veil, therefore.
