A permit was issued for this property on 8/27/1999 and reissued on 8/28/2000. The permit has expired and neither the well or septic system were installed. The owner has choose a different house plan and the proposed location is shown on the attached site plan and design drawings. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: SOILS: Three soils logs were previously submitted to your office in the 1999 design package. Attached are copies of the soil logs. Please refer to the 1999 design letter for an explanation of the soils conditions. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. SURFACE WATERS: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached 1999 topography site plan, the average slope is a 5-10 percent slope running from approximately east to west. In short, there are no slope concerns. The trenches are to be installed parallel to all slope contours. Comments regarding the proposed upgrade are summarized as follows: SOILS: On March 29, 1999, two test holes were excavated and a percolation tests were performed. In both TH91 and TH#2, the soils below the organics is a SM/ML material to a depth of 17 feet (bottom of TH#1) and 18 feet (bottom of TH92). No ground water was encountered at the time of excavation. In TH91, a percolation test was performed between 6.0 feet to 6.5 feet, and determined the rate to be at 120+ minute/inch. In TH#2, a percolation test was performed between 7.0 feet to 7.5 feet and determined the rate to be 6.3 minutes/inch. Due to the poor percolation rate in TH#1, a third test hole was excavated and labeled TH#7. In TH#7, the soils below the organics/loam is a MUSM material to a depth of 15.5 feet and then transitions to a SM/SP material to a depth of 18.5 feet (bottom of test hole). Two percolation test were performed, one between 4.0 feet to 4.5 feet and the other the other between 7.5 feet to 8.0 feet. The percolation rates were determined to be 120+ minute/inch in the upper bench and 2.5 minute/inch in the lower bench. It is our opinion that the percolation test for the upper bench was performed in a pocket of impermeable soils. It is also our opinion, that due to the overall appearance of the soils in the three test holes, a 0.45 application rate should be used. The primary site will be installed within the 30 foot radius of TH92 and the alternate site would be installed within the 30 foot radius of TH#7. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 120+, 6.3, & 2.5 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.45 gallons/day/112 c. Number of Bedrooms: 4 d. Design Flow: 600 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 1334 ft2 f. Maximum Total Depth: 12 feet g. Width: 2.5 feet h. Length: 2 @ 45 feet long each (90 feet total length) i. Effective Depth: 8 feet j. Effective absorption area = 1440 ft2 SURFACE WATERS: There is no surface water within 100' of the proposed septic system. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography site plan, the average slope for Lot 6 is a 5-10 percent slope running from approximately east to west; in short, there are no slope concerns, The trenches are to be installed parallel to all slope contours. CLOSING: I am open to any suggestions from your department, which would be an improvement to the proposed design.
