Box 102954 Anchorage, Alaska, 99510 (907)272-8218 Fax I am writing to request that a permit to install a new septic tank be issued for this property. The system currently serves an existing three,bedroom house. The Owner wishes to construct a new bedroom and garage on the house. The lot is currently developed and is served by a private water system. 1. Tank Replacement. The original 1000 -gallon septic tank was installedprior to the 1984 upgrade to this septic system It is assumed the tank was installed when the house was constructed in 1963. From field observations, the tank is extremely corroded. The replacement tank is to be installed north of the existing tankand outside the 100 -foot well radius. A new 1250 -gallon septic tank will be installed. See the attached site plan. The existing drain field was inspected and found to be dry even though it was in use. It wastested and found to be able to accept the required 600 gallons required for a four-bedroom house. 2. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of flee proposed system. 3. Topography: The septic drain field is located at the bottom of a small hill. The proposed septic tank will be installed uphill of the drain field and will have at least four feet of cover over the tank. 4. Upgrade to 4 bedrooms: The existing field was constructed to have 882 square feet of surface area. The soil was rated at 190 sf per bedrooms. The minimum area for afour-bedroom system at this soil rating is 760 sf. A reserve are is shown on the site plan and is sized based on the existing codes and apercolation rate of 16-30 minutes per inch. Lee Reid obtained a percolation rate of 15.2 mpi in 1984. The proposed installation will not affect the future development of tle surrounding or existing lots. There are no wells or septic systems within 100 feet of the proposed septic tank location. In conducting an adequacy test, I attempt to provide a thorough, conscientious engineering analysis of the system in accordance with MoA COSA guidelines and regulations. The reported results describe the performance of the system under the conditions encountered at the time of the test, and separation distances measured to readily identifiable features. The operational life of all wells and septic systems depend on the local soil condition, ground water levels that may fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system. These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator of this system. All systems eventually fail and satisfactory test results do not guarantee future performance of the system, nor do they guarantee that there are no hidden defects or encroachments.
